Sometimes when believers in our community come out to give testimonies, they mention how they told or asked God that if He did this and this, they would testify.

Sincerely, I’ve always had a certain feeling about that phrase. Is it correct? Does God answer those prayers so we can testify or because He is good?

I know the advantage of testimony to other believers in stirring up faith.

Transcript of answer

No, my friend. God is sovereign. And we cannot coax God into doing what he doesn't want to do. Are you following me? Yeah, people might say, "Oh, that's why I believe God answered me," but that doesn't necessarily mean that that's why God answered them, right? That's just their belief, but that doesn't mean that that's why God answered them.

The idea that God is so feeble in mind that we can manipulate him and stroke his ego and say, "Oh God, I'm going to tell everybody about you if you do this for me." God is a bit deeper than that. Do you follow me?

So those kinds of tricks can work with human beings, okay, who are slaves to human validation and popularity and fame and all of that. But we can't expect such things to work with the almighty God. Amen.

It is good for us to share testimonies. It's not because God needs his name to be said abroad. It's because we need to share testimonies for our faith to be built. In fact, the word testimony in Hebrew literally means "do it again, Lord." When we are sharing testimonies, it's also like a prayer saying, Lord, do this again. I believe that what happened yesterday is something that can happen again. It's not just for the faith of the people who are listening. It's also for the faith of the person who is testifying.

Because in life, oftentimes, good things happen. And we so quickly move on that we forget that there was a moment of great help from God. And the enemy comes and begins to flood our minds with all the negativity of last week, two weeks ago. But when we are people who are perpetual testifiers of the goodness of God, that testifying way of life can help to build us a great faith that can withstand periods of adversity.

So yeah, people might say that, but it doesn't mean that that's why God answers. God answers because he's God. We can't strongarm him. We can't force his hand. We can't deceive him or stroke his ego to make him do what he doesn't want to do.

So if anything, if God does something for you, don't hesitate to testify. You will do that for the strengthening of your own faith. But beyond that, you do that for the strengthening of the faith of another person. There is power in testimony.

The Bible is full of testimony. And because of the stories of the people we have read in scripture, a lot of us, our faith has been built up. So it's very important, not just for yourself, but for the release of other people. Someone else's freedom might be in the testimony that you share. So that's the mindset we ought to have. Amen.

Testimony is: One, it is for us to remember that God is good and to not lose sight and memory of his hand in our lives. Two, it is to allow our stories to stand as a strong encouragement for other people who need strengthening in their faith.

It is well with you. God bless you.
